Illinois ranked No. 8 to open season, Dosunmu and Cockburn Preseason All-Big Ten

CHAMPAIGN, Ill (WCCU/WICS/WRSP) - The University of Illinois opening the 2020-21 college basketball season inside the Top 10 of the National rankings.

The Illini coming in at No. 8 on the first AP Top 25 poll. This is the highest preseason ranking to open the season since Illinois was ranked No. 5 to open the 2004-05 season.

Illinois is one of three Big Ten teams inside the Top 10 to open the season along with No. 5 Iowa and No. 7 Wisconsin

Also released today were the Preseason Big Ten selections with Ayo Dosunmu and Kofi Cockburn both earning Preseason All-Big Ten honors.

Dosunmu and Iowa's Luka Garza, who was voted Preseason Big Ten Player of the Year, were the only two players in the conference to be unanimous selections.

The other Big Ten players on the All-Conference list were Trayce Jackson-Davis (Indiana), Joe Wieskamp (Iowa), Aaron Henry (Michigan State), Marcus Carr (Minnesota), Trevion Williams (Purdue), Geo Baker (Rutgers), and Nate Reuvers (Wisconsin)
