CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCCU/WICS/WRSP) - Illinois losing another key player on the defensive side of the ball today, as defensive end Owen Carney Jr. announces he is entering the transfer portal.
Carney had a breakout senior season in 2020, that saw him earn second team All-Big Ten honors. He led the Illini with 5 sacks on the season, which ranked third in the Big Ten. He also had 7 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and 2 QB hits on the year.
The news of Carney's departure comes after Illinois lost senior linebackers Jake Hansen and Milo Eifler, who both declared for the NFL Draft earlier this week.
