Brandon Peters named to Maxwell Award watch list

CHAMPAIGN, Ill (WCCU/WICS/WRSP) - Illinois quarterback Brandon Peters is on the watch list for the Maxwell Award, which is given to the College Player of the Year.

In his first season in the orange and blue, Peters helped lead Illinois to the Redbox Bowl, Illinois first postseason appearance since 2014. Peters completed 152 of his 275 pass attempts for 1,884 yards with 18 touchdowns and 8 interceptions, while also rushing for 213 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Peters is now the sixth Illini on a preseason watch list joining center Doug Kramer (Wuerffel Award), punter Blake Hayes (Ray Guy Award), offensive linemen Kendrick Green and Alex Palczewski (Outland Trophy), and linebacker Jake Hansen (Bednarik Award, Butkus Award, Nagurski Trophy)
