CHAMPAIGN, Ill (WCCU/WICS/WRSP) - While the bulk of the team is set to arrive on campus in July, nearly 35 Illinois football players are currently in Champaign in the midst of voluntary summer workouts.
Head strength and conditioning coach Lou Hernandez meeting with the media via Zoom on Thursday to discuss the progress he's seen over the first couple of weeks.
While the team is working out in small groups and under a number of safety limitations, a few players have made an early impression on Hernandez. Players like Jake Hansen, Khalan Tolson, Luke Ford, and quarterback Brandon Peters.
As Peters enters his second season at the University of Illinois, he already looks "absolutely incredible" according to Hernandez.
"He definitely put some work in (this offseason) to help showcase some of his athleticism," Hernandez said. "He's definitely standing out right now as a guy who continued to lift, continued to run, and continued to work on his overall performance. I think that right there shows a lot to this football team, how important it is to our quarterback to get it done. Hopefully it's going to continue to spread throughout the remainder of our guys as well."
