SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WSBT) -- Miller Lite wants to hook you up with a free beer, but the reason behind it isn't what you'd expect.

The beer company is reviving the "It's Miller Time" slogan that first surfaced in the early 2000s and asking consumers to unfollow them on social media channels as a way to get them to spend more time with friends and family. Miller Lite says today's generation of legal-age drinkers spend five and a half years scrolling through social media feeds in their lifetime, and they want to get back to in-person connections.

This is a pretty unconventional thing to ask, but if you do it, you could be one of the 118,000 people -- a number equal to Miller Lite's current amount of Instagram followers -- to earn a free beer.

“We understand it’s risky for a brand today to say that we want you to unfollow us on social media when it’s one of the many ways we stay in touch with beer drinkers,” says Anup Shah, vice president of the Miller family of brands at MillerCoors, in a press release. “But we value those in-person connections and are committed to inspiring people to do the same, even if that means losing a few followers along the way.”

Unfollow Miller Lite on social media, take a screenshot proving you did it then text "UNFOLLOW" to 49375. The screenshot must be included for you to be eligible.

But there's a catch! A beer purchase is required in order for you to be eligible for a Miller Lite rebate up to $8 in value. Remember, participants have to be 21 years and older.
